Artist Statement

Imagine if you could see that soft, velvety summer breeze caressing your face. Now imagine if you could not only feel the vibes that people put out, but could actually see them. No longer would secrets be hidden or the world be such a mystery.

My inspiration often comes from those simple things we normally can't see or touch, but are surrounded by every minute of everyday. My goal always is to capture these "intangibles" in ways that force us to ponder the perception of nothingness or silence. The underlining theme in my work has always been my fascination with energy, the hidden details in challenging compositions, and how emotions can connect us to a moment in time.

I often begin a piece with broad brush marks, based on a previously conceptualized composition. Then, using glazes in thick and seemingly random brush strokes, the paint begins to acquire the layers and depth needed to convey the vast dynamic vocabulary of those things in between things. I may employ abstract, representational, political and human elements in my paintings as each component brings its own energy and respective preconceptions, helping viewers to connect with their own energy memories.

I strive to create art that can hold a viewer's attention for a life time. To witness someone discover new elements in a painting they thought they already knew, is one of the greatest compliments an artist can receive.
